American Gods

What Do You Worship?

Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, American Gods creates a world inhabited by ancient and modern gods, brought to life by people's beliefs. “What Do You Worship?” was created to introduce these characters to a new audience, while providing an interesting, introspective experience for those already familiar with the book.

How Did It Work?

Presented with a series of “would you rather” scenarios, the application assigned points to each decision made to calculate which “god” the user worships. The user's result was added to an overall count displayed as a graph. Depending on their result, the user could enter one of nine sweepstake drawings.

Creating Neon Effects

Our designs played off the striking neon sign used in the American Gods title treatment. Using a PNG image for each occurrence of this effect would have been a nightmare to update and would have slowed download times for users. Instead, I opted to create a reusable SVG React component using SVG filters to achieve the glowing effect. Add a little CSS animation for the flickering, and voila!
